Inspired by The Great GatsbyPosted by Jo on Monday 6th May 2013
Last year when FashionPR started to compile the S/S 2013 trend boards for www.fashioncapital.co.uk one of the key emerging themes was 20's flapper chic.
In part the move to this stylish trend is down to the much anticipated Baz Luhrmann film version of the famed F. Scott Fitzgerald movie The Great Gatsby.
The 'Simple Chic 20's' inspired S/S13 trend board compiled for FashionCapital last year
Luhrmann worked with the designer Catherine Martin to capture the decadence of the 1920's. Kitting out the likes of Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin collaborated with Miuccia Prada and the Brooks Brothers to give a modern twist to authentic Twenties styles. Previews reveal a riot of colour, sparkle and sophisticated chic and these iconic visual references have inspired fashion stylists, writers, bloggers and designers to produce their own take on the stylish era.
A selection of current season designs that borrow from the 20's trend:
Look for collarless blouses, clean necklines, dropped-waists and tunic shapes that fall to the knee or all the way to the ankle. Other details include lace panelling, pleated sections, fringe embellishment and subtle deco patterns used in print or surface detail. From high street favourites Topshop, River Island and Reiss to designers such as Lara Bohnic and Valentino, even the Tiffany & Co Gatsby collection created especially for the film is available to buy – for a small fortune of course!
