New Talent Storms the Midlands Fashion Awards 2018 Catwalk

Storm Callum may well have been causing havoc across the UK but last Friday night, 12th October 2018, up and coming designers and industry talent were causing a creative storm on the Midlands Fashion Awards (MFA) catwalk. Held at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham, the Midlands Fashion Awards 2018 was full to capacity with a bumper edition of 42 finalists on show.

Now in its 11th year, the MFA is an established and dedicated showcase for independent, emerging and creative talent in the region, from designers to make-up artists and stylists to photographers.

Supported by Alan Sharman Agency, Style Birmingham Magazine, the Edgbaston Boutique Hotel, Francesco’s Hair Group, the Central School of Make-up, FashionCapital.co.uk and Birmingham City University. The event commenced with cocktails, courtesy of the Edgbaston Boutique Hotel, meanwhile Elegant Entertainment provided pre-show music and attendees had the chance to browse the finalists’ work via their stands.

The catwalk show and awards ceremony was hosted by the actress and presenter Nicky Campbell. She said:  If you weren’t at the MFA’s - then you MISSED OUT! Incredible talent and creativity from all involved! So proud to have been part of such a fantastic evening.”

All MFA 2018 winners received a trophy and will gain industry led opportunities to further their career. Media partner Style Birmingham Magazine will provide the chance to work on an editorial fashion shoot and gain media exposure. While FashionCapital.co.uk will offer a one-to-one mentoring session with industry expert and CEO Jenny Holloway, as well as supply 60m of fabric valued at £3000.

Quotes from this year’s winners:

Accessory Designer of the Year 2018 Lucy Walters - Hiorns Hats:

“Without events like the Midlands Fashion Awards it’s so difficult for small independent designers like myself to have a platform to show their work. I am absolutely over the moon to win the Accessories category at the Midland Fashion Awards. Being almost entirely self-taught and running this business alongside a full-time job makes it a real honour to have my work recognised in such good company.”

Make Up Artist of the Year Rosin Conway - Graduate from the Central School of Make-up: “Taking part at this year’s Midlands Fashion Awards was a fantastic experience.

I absolutely loved being a part of the make-up team backstage and competing against such talented MUA’s. Winning make-up artist of the year was a bonus and an achievement I am very proud of.

“I am so excited to further myself in a career I am so passionate about. Thank-you for the amazing experience, I look forward to the future opportunities this award will bring me.”

Young Designer of the Year 2018 Charlotte Bull - Nottingham Trent University graduate:

“It was a pleasure to be selected as a finalist for the Midlands Fashion Awards this year, and an honour to be chosen as the Young Designer of the Year 2018.

“It was amazing to see the high standards of other collections and appreciate the hard work and creative talents from other designers. I definitely suggest that future designers enter the Awards and let’s continue to showcase the talent of the Midlands.

“Having created an all-knitwear collection, I am encouraged by the direction that knitwear is taking, and excited for the next step in my creative career.”

MFA Founder & Director, Jenny Eason added: “Another successful showcase of independent, emerging and creative talent. Despite the extremely bad weather conditions, we had a huge turnout and the venue was full to capacity. The designer collections this year were outstanding and it was extremely difficult as per usual to select the winners.”

The event continued the celebrations well into the night with an after-party at Marco Pierre White’s at The Cube.
