Give It Some Welly

As any keen rambler will tell you “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.” We all know fashion and practicality seldom mix but in the face of all this wet weather even the style brigade are reaching for those trusty old wellies. Not any old wellies mind you, no, we are talking labels such as Aigle, Hunter, Burberry, or perhaps Le Chameau.

 

While the style pack are known to don a pair of Wellington’s come festival season the latest look is taking the rubber boot into town. And you can forget cutesy prints and in-your-face hues too, the current batch of ‘It’ wellies to ‘pop to the shops in’ take the more traditional route in classic green or black with the odd lace-up detail here, or zip fastening there.

 

 

Hunter reportedly sells about 1,000 pairs a day and last June the brand collaborated with Jimmy Choo to produce a classic pair of Hunter’s embossed with Choo’s signature crocodile print. Out just in time for Glastonbury sales were brisk and not exactly cheap at £250- a pair.

 

Those spotted pounding the pavement in rubber include Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Oliver and Ronnie Wood. Thanks to the UK’s persistent wet weather alongside this season’s classic country trend welly sales have never looked so good.
