STYLE ADDICT NEWS
Style Addicts Top Winter Windows 2011There's no escaping the fact that Christmas is upon us and where ever you look retailers have dusted off their baubles in an attempt to lure the public into a bit of festive spending. From a visual merchandising point of view Christmas can also provide a creative feast of ideas: particularly when it comes to the windows. After all a great window gets customers in through the door. One of the biggest themes in London this Christmas is the cold; snow, ice, magical crisp white backdrops. Ironic considering that after last winter’s early chill this autumn has proved one of the warmest in years! Leading the way with the concept is Janet Wardley, head of Visual Display at Harvey Nichols. Her windows are based around the theme of an ice workshop; frozen props, snow drifts and dramatic mannequins trapped in ice create an arctic winter wonderland complete with falling snowflakes. Across town another department store giant; Selfridges have also gone for 'A White Christmas' look complete with a state-of-the-art touch-screen music option that uses the glass window pane as the loudspeaker. Each window acts as an oversized music box while each visual combines ice white and silver both in product and prop. Meanwhile the mannequins pose like they are being shot for a glossy fashion spread. Elsewhere, Harrods have opted for an enchanted forest look complete with snow and crystals aplenty and the winter white theme can be found repeated up and down the high street from Firetrap to Gap. Doing their own version of festive fantasy Liberty's have based each of their windows on the Twelve Days of Christmas from the ‘Eight Maids-a-Milking’ albeit milking luxurious chocolate to the ‘Two Turtle Doves’ flying above a languorously posed mannequin. After all the pure white Liberty’s windows are rich with colour and texture; gold, red, peacock feathers and forest green. Check out Style Addicts favourite Winter Windows... |
