On|Off reaches new heights in its support for design talent

On|Off announces its WINNER of ‘New Designers’ - ‘One year on’ - award 2006
On|Off announced its winner of a new award for the New Designers exhibition – The ‘One year on’ On|Off award. This innovative award recognises the originality of design and a willingness to promote and market products within a fashion arena.  The award was judged today by On|Off’s Director Lee Lapthorne, at New Designers, Islington Design Centre in week 2 of the New Designers exhibition.

The winner Janelle Ramsay has been awarded the opportunity to exhibit her creative furniture at the established On|Off event in September between 17 – 20, 2006 during London fashion week at The Royal Academy of Arts.

Lee Lapthorne said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this amazing opportunity for an emerging ‘new designer’ to showcase their work at the On|Off event during London Fashion Week to an international audience of press and buyers”.

“Janelle Ramsay of ‘Nelly & Jean’ designs are both intellectual and stimulating – a great design, and should feature well amongst international art works and the fashion industry”.

Fashion does not live in a vacuum and neither does On|Off. Consumers are more selective than ever before and request lifestyle products as part of investing in a brand.

With this in mind On|Off combines art, product design and interior installations to compliment its fashion runways and exhibition. This successful initiative takes On|Off to even greater heights of artistic expression.

On|Off is visited by over 6000 guests and the fashion elite, those include Anna Wintor, Suzy Menkes, Colin McDowell, Isabella Blow and even Royalty – HRH Princess Michael of Kent.

A need for On|Off?
With the lack of exhibition platforms and catwalk opportunities, the ability for up and coming designers to get exposure is harder than ever before. While London may be acclaimed for its creative cutting edge fashion, art and design, the business success of its design talents has been negligible and London’s potential offerings overlooked. On|Off changes this reality. Research has shown that On|Off and its designers would benefit greatly from showcasing in other territories.
