TOM FORD SUPPORTS NEW BRITISH FASHION TALENT

PRESS RELEASE 14/07/06
Tom Ford showed his support for new British fashion design talent by hosting a cocktail reception for this year’s Fashion Fringe finalists Gavin Douglas, Stephen Harper, design duo Six and Seven-Eighths, and Antonio Santana at Claridges last night. The four designers met Tom and discussed the collections they will show at the Fashion Fringe Final in September 2006, held during London Fashion Week.
The four designers will need to impress an international fashion panel of judges in order to be awarded the title of Fashion Fringe winner 2006, and a trophy designed by renowned jewellery designer Solange Azagury-Partridge.
As honorary chair of Fashion Fringe and one of the most influential people in international fashion, Tom Ford shares the belief that the vitality and energy of London is the ideal platform to showcase and house the uniqueness and youth of British design talent. Tom Ford commented last night: “Britain has a long tradition for producing iconoclastic designers. I am pleased to support Fashion Fringe - an organisation that provides a creative and economic platform that will continue to nurture design talent.”
Fashion Fringe was created in 2004 to re-invigorate the British fashion industry by providing a creative stage for young British talent. It offers the winning designer invaluable advice via a mentoring programme and development grants to help them set up and sustain their own business.
The 2004 winners, Basso & Brooke are now internationally recognised in fashion and last year’s winner, Erdem, has caught the attention of international fashion journalists and buyers alike, with Barney’s in New York recently acquiring part of this year’s collection.
