The Queens-Hat Award Winner
EMMA YEO WINS THE QUEENS-HAT AWARD AT ASCOT
The UK’s top millinery competition concluded at Royal Ascot today, National Hat day, with 24yr old Emma Yeo, a freelance fashion accessory and headwear designer from Shoreham By Sea, Sussex, landing the industry’s most valuable prize.
Sponsored by the Ascot inspired website Queens-hat.com, Emma’s amazing creation is made of a luxury wood, shipped in from Japan. Emma has only been making hats for eighteen months and stumbled upon millinery during her MA in Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins University.
Her work draws together elements from textiles and jewellery to create fashion accessories that range from sophisticated understatement to the overtly theatrical. She is currently Artist in Residence at Farnham UCA where she offers advice and assistance to students studying BA and MA Textiles and 3D Product courses.
As winner of the 2010 ‘Who wants to be a Milli-naire’ competition, Emma Yeo receive’s £1000 cash, a trophy and the opportunity to have the winning design photographed by Claire Huish. The runner-up receives £250 and each finalist receives £100.
