Bets are on Kingston fashion thoroughbred

The Graduate Fashion Week crowd were charmed by menswear designer Ross Williams’ horse-inspired collection which was unveiled at Kingston University’s catwalk show on Monday at Earls Court 2.

Hailing from Wingate, a small ex-mining village in north east England where horses have been an integral part of working life for centuries, the young designer’s fascination with the beautiful beasts has inspired a range of garments which have seen him galloping clear of the competition. Fashion pundits have been taking a punt on the 22 year old being one of the ones to watch in the fashion industry over the coming years - his dappled print jackets and heavy woollen coats could soon be highly prized.

Ross’ love of our four-legged friends stems from his childhood growing up outside Hartlepool. His family kept horses and the young designer grew up riding Storm and Amber every week. Proud of the role these working animals have played in the history of his village, he wanted to reflect traditional working class values in his use of fabrics such as worsted wool, leather and cotton poplins.
