Clothes Show Says Yes to Flats

CLOTHES SHOW LIVE SAYS WOMEN SHOULD BE ABLE TO WEAR FLAT SHOES AT WORK

***SPOKESPERSON AVAILABLE***

Clothes Show Live – the world’s largest fashion and beauty event – has come out in support of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who are expected to argue in next months TUC meeting that female workers should be able to wear flat shoes in the workplace.

A motion for debate published in the TUC’s preliminary conference agenda lists a range of health problems, from corns to back pain, which can be caused by wearing stilettos.

Tabled by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, it wants fellow trade unionists to agree that “heels may look glamorous on the Hollywood catwalks but are inappropriate for the day-to-day working environment”.

Next month the TUC will meet to argue that women should not feel obliged to wear high heels at work, Clothes Show Live fully supports this motion and agrees that female workers should be free to wear flat shoes if they prefer.

***CLOTHES SHOW LIVE MANAGING DIRECTOR GAVIN BROWN IS AVAILABLE TO COMMENT ON:

- Why women like wearing high heels

- Why traditionally high heels have been worn in the workplace

- Why Clothes Show Live supports the Trade Union Congress’s opinion that no one should be forced to wear high heels at work and that such dress codes are outdated as women now have a varied option of footwear

- Women can look equally smart and professional in flats

- Any other issues related to body image and the fashion industry
