Couture Clubbing – Innovative Sophistication in a Nocturnal SettingIf the high street is all about fast fashion with recurring themes then you could say the club scene is the complete opposite. Individuality rules along with the freedom to express yourself to the max. Leave your inhibitions at the door from fetish to retro 80s – anything goes, it’s no wonder trend forecasters and designers cite the club scene as a major fashion influence.
Of course Amy and Kseniya aka ‘Couture Clubbing’ understand the intoxicating mix of lavish nightclubbing with dramatic fashion all too well. The duo trained at Central Saint Martins in Costume, Set and Art Direction and decided their label would be more than just fashion; it would encompass an entire experience.
After graduating Amy and Kseniya produced and designed an Opera show in collaboration with celebrated wig designer Yuki Saito called ‘Der Rosenkavalier’. This show successfully ran at private membership clubs ‘The Arts’ in Dover Street, Mayfair; The Cochrane Theatre and as a launch for the ‘Origin’ Somerset House exhibition in late 2006. The show took the high drama and glamour of opera into a broader and more exciting context - the club scene.
Next on the Couture Clubbing agenda is the launch of a glamorous monthly hosted by Kyzar entertainment, the first installment of ‘Kyzar Chic’ is scheduled for the 26th April at 24 Kingly Street. Amy and Kseniya will open the event with a performance featuring their designs. They are working with special FX prop makers, shoe makers, jewellery makers and of course Yuki, the wig designer to put on a show that will be nothing short of spectacular.
Based on the opera ‘The Queen of Spades’ Couture Clubbing will tell the story of the opera through the show. There are six main ‘couture’ pieces which are all based around the theme of the Queen of Spades and twelve commercial garments (two for every couture piece) inspired by the couture theme and also sold as ‘party clothes’. Spin-off themes include of gambling, poker and the casino - which adds to the nocturnal lifestyle element.
