Now On: SHOWstudio - Fashion Revolution

 

 

Don’t know about you, but there aren’t many exhibitions that will you to scrawl on Naomi Campbell’s derrière, but then there aren’t many exhibitions like SHOWstudio’s Fashion Revolution. Set up by uber photographer Nick Knight, www.SHOWstudio.com has led the way with its innovative and interactive approach to the world of fashion online.

It all began back in 1999 with the core concept of democratising the exclusive high fashion sector by showcasing projects led by prime industry figures. From online interviews to cutting-edge films to get-involved design competitions - it’s easy to see why SHOWstudio has bagged numerous awards and accolades over the years.

With Fashion Revolution Nick Knight’s intention is to take the notion of fashion photography a few steps further. Based around the themes of 'Process', 'Performance' and 'Participation', the exhibition showcases projects from SHOWstudio's archives alongside films, artworks and live fashion shoots plus events specifically devised for the show.

 

Knight comments: "We are in the midst of a revolution in fashion imagery. Moving away from illustration and stills photography, we are now entering the restless world of interactive, self-created, digital-imaging: accessible, downloadable and constantly changing. This is what interests me. Working with the very top fashion creators, this show opens up the whole process of fashion to literally everyone, instead of just an informed few."

 

McQueen - Groom to Bride

Beyond the giant naked sculpture of Naomi (which, by the way, you can also scrawl on remotely via http://www.showstudio.com/project/fashionrevolutionnaomi/ ) you can also check out Alexander McQueen vigorously transforming a male model from a groom to a bride via rips, shreds and lashings of paint. Be privy to a fashion shoot in progress and partake in a little phone tête-à-tête with a model styled a la Simon Foxton.

 

Fashion Revolution succeeds in fully engaging the senses with technology and is undoubtedly a must visit for fashionista’s far and wide. Although, may we also add, non-fashion folk might find it rather interesting too.

 

Fashion Revolution is on at Somerset House, Embankment Galleries, Strand, London WC2 is on until 20 December 2009.
