LFW Day 2: The Midas Touch

Mark Fast caused a furore last season by slinging a few ‘plus’ size models down his catwalk and true to form he kept his enthusiasm for the larger lady alive to present his latest designs. The most famous of which, American model Crystal Renn, sauntered in clingy knits that hugged every curve. In amongst the body-con Fast combined layers and drapes adding fluidity and a nod to a widening repertoire. Laden with commercial appeal Fast rounded-off with a handcrafted gold number that featured cutaway shoulders and graphic open-knit patterns.

Gold was also a reoccurring theme from Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker aka PPQ. Gold and black all the way – from full on trench coats to bordello trims on cocktail dresses. Great in a trashy, rock chic kind of way, which is exactly what PPQ is all about.

Offering a sophisticated twist to the plethora of fitted forms was Emilio de la Morena. Pleated sections, intricate folds and floaty ruffles softened strong silhouettes, as did painterly watercolour shades. Emilio describes his work as ’sculptural chic’ and honed his trade in Jonathan Saunder’s studio, an influence that has continued to inspire the up and coming designer.

Elsewhere, Henry Holland added fun to the proceedings with bold stripes, graphic prints and abbreviated acronyms that provide much language for avid text and social networkers. The likes of Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof posed and pouted for the paps who were practically fighting to snap off a few shots. Where is the glamour I ask you?
